I haven't felt combat this snappy since Final Fantasy 6. I'm playing on PC with it installed on my SSD and there's no load time between combat stat, and with no victory screen you go from fight to fight with incredible pace. Here's where Arise outshines it's older sibling in my opinion.Ĭombat is very snappy, fast paced, gets you in and out very, very fast. That being said though, Arise isn't quite as good as Berseria but it's definitely in the upper tier of Tales games. I haven't beaten Arise yet, but Berseria is my 2nd favourite Tales game. I never quite mastered how the Artes system worked, and a lot of the time I felt as though battles could turn into a button-mash slog of hoping that I got enough of those blue diamond thingies to recharge in order to continue combos, or else I'd get owned (I may have been playing on hard though, can't remember). ![]() Something about it felt overly complicated to me, and not very fluid compared to previous Tales games. The combat in Berseria on the other hand, while not bland, I could never wrap my head around. By the end of the game I felt like I was trying to run through all the hit-sponge enemies and generic areas just to see how the story progressed. Everything just kinda fell flat for me, which made the game's progression (outside of the story beats) feel like a real chore. I enjoyed the story in Berseria as well as all the character interactions, but I found the exploration maps and environments to be incredibly bland vanilla-jrpg stuff, with no particularly interesting creative takes, especially for a game of its time. Both games sit at 'very positive' on Steam, and I don't think my experience with Berseria was all that great, and I don't want to jump into something I might regret 10 hours in (again). However -and I might be in the minority here- I've been burned before by the likes of Berseria, so I wanted to ask people who may have played both on thoughts. The latest game in the series, Tales of Arise, comes out worldwide on September 10th. It's the best-selling Tales game and one that is likely to pull in a generation of fans.A subreddit for fans of the "Tales of" series published by Namco Bandai! Tales of Arise Thankfully, the anticipation and the five-year wait for the seventeenth mainline title were worth it. The second hit is of course the hotly anticipated Tales of Arise. The first was Scarlet Nexus, a sci-fi title worked on by members of the Tales and God Eater series. Updated Septemby Michael Llewellyn: It's been a great year for Namco Bandai, with two major JRPG hits releasing within months of each other. That being said, there are still some high-scoring hits for the series that even Metacritic has acknowledged, many of which remain the best Tales games among fans to this day. However, by comparison, the series has remained obscure when compared to its rivals in the West. ![]() As one of the top three JRPGs in Japan, it rivals the likes of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest in terms of storytelling. Its themes of friendship, coexistence, and character development ensured that it gained a dedicated and vocal fanbase over six generations of consoles.
